Historic Preservation Commission

Town Planning Board Members also serve on the Weddington Historic Preservation Commission.  The Historic Preservation Commission is authorized undertake such actions reasonably necessary to inventory, protect, restore properties of historical significance. For a detailed description of the Commission’s duties, please contact the Town Hall.

Meetings are held the 4th Monday of the first month of every quarter after the regularly scheduled Planning Board Meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board that interprets Town ordinances, hears requests for variances to setbacks, and hears appeals of decisions by the Town's Zoning Administrator.  The Board's members are the same as the Planning Board, five are regular members and two serve as alternates.  This Board meets as needed at the Town Hall.

Planning Board

The Planning Board of the Town of Weddington is an advisory board that reviews subdivision plats and changes to the Town's Ordinances and discusses matters related to land use and development.  They are a recommending body for the Town Council.  

The Board is appointed by the Council to serve a four-year term.  It is comprised of 7 volunteer members, all citizens of Weddington, and meets on the fourth Monday of the month at Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.

These boards were established to give citizens input into what happens in the community and to provide support and advice to the Town Council on matters that affect residents and their town.  To volunteer to serve on an advisory board, please fill out the application here.

Town Council

The governing body of the Town of Weddington is the Town Council, which has four members and the Mayor. The Town is divided into four electoral districts and each district is represented on the Council by one member. The qualified voters of the entire Town elect the members of the Council.

Register Your House Alarm

Due to the number of false alarms being transmitted and an increase in cost of responding to these false alarms, both in the form of equipment and manpower, necessitates the enactment of the alarm system ordinance designed to reduce the incidence of false alarms and to recover some of the costs incurred in responding hereto. 

Police Services

The Town of Weddington contracts with the Union County Sheriff's Office to provide law enforcement services for our residents and businesses. Our contract provides 5 officers to serve the Town of Weddington with 24-hour coverage. The Weddington deputies are stationed out of Town Hall.

Permits & Applications

Permits are required for all new construction and must be submitted via the Town's Self-Service Permitting Portal. Any application submitted via mail or email will not be accepted for processing. When making your submittal, please ensure that the appropriate and completed application is provided and that all required submittal items are provided as a PDF (other file types are not supported by the permitting software).

Tax

Tax Collection

Town of Weddington 2025 property tax bills are expected to be mailed by early September. They are due without penalty until January 5, 2026. The Solid Waste Fee is included in the tax rate.

Weddington residents pay both city and county property taxes.  You will receive separate bills.
