Give Input on Future of Water Infrastructure in Union County

Residents of Union County who are not currently connected to a public water system are invited to apply for a unique opportunity to serve on a newly-formed committee to provide input on potential expansion of Union County’s water system, programs and services.

The Union County Board of Commissioners established a Water Solutions Advisory Committee at its regular meeting on April 17, 2023, for the purpose of reviewing water service in Union County. The committee will include 12 residents of Union County who do not currently receive water from Union County or another municipal water system. Committee membership will be represented by the following:

  1. Two members from the agriculture community;
  2. Four members from any of the county’s municipalities who are not currently served by a public water system.
  3. Six members from unincorporated Union County.

Potential topics for discussion by this Committee may include, but are not limited to, rural water service, grant opportunities, Short Water Line Program, assessments, and proposed line extensions.

Dates and times for regular meetings of the Water Solutions Advisory Committee have not been established at this time. It is anticipated that this committee will meet at least once a month during the months of July through December 2023. The committee is expected to present final recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners in January 2024.

Residents interested in serving on the committee should submit a completed application form by Wednesday, May 31, 2023, to the Clerk to the Board of Commissioners, Lynn West, by emailing lynn.west@unioncountync.gov or in person at the Government Center (500 North Main Street, Monroe).
