Weddington Town Core Master Plan
The November 17th meeting for the Weddington Town Core Master Plan included a presentation of the analysis and issues that were the basis for the development of the town core plans. Then a series of different plans for the town core were unveiled. The plans ranged from Option A which included no new facilities to Options D and E which included a mix of proposed uses. The design concepts and components of each plan were described. The attendees were then asked to indicate their preferred plan and also comment on the components of the plan they liked and aspects that they would like to alter. They were also asked to indicate their least favorite option. The overwhelming preference of attendees was Options D and E and the least favorite plan was Option A.

Results from the Town Core Public Kick-Off Meeting
During the kick-off public meeting for the Weddington Town Core held on September 29th attendees were separated into small groups. In those small groups they developed lists of “Things You Want a Town Core to Add to Weddington” and “Things You Don’t Want a Town Core to Add to Weddington”. The lists from each small group were posted on the wall and attendees were asked to use ten stickers to vote for the items they though were the highest priority (they were asked to vote for 6 items in the “want” category and 4 in the “do not want” category since the list of “wants” far exceeded the list of “don’t wants”). The following is a tabulation of the votes. The list has been organized by categories: commercial development, residential, office and general development, infrastructure (including public facilities), traffic and miscellaneous. Since the lists were developed independently in each small group there is often duplication. The goals and objectives for the town core project will be based on the results of the kick-off meeting.

May 28, 2009 - Weddington Property Taxes
Weddington property tax notices will be mailed in September 2009. Taxes are due on September 1, 2009 and payable without penalty until January 5, 2010. Property owners whose payments are postmarked on or after January 6, 2010 will be assessed 2 percent interest for the month of January and an additional ¾ percent every month thereafter until the bill is paid. If your taxes are escrowed through your mortgage company, the notice will be sent directly to them. All taxpayers that are not escrowed will be billed directly. If you do not receive your tax notice by the end of September, please contact the Tax Collector.
The town tax rate for FY2010 is $0.03 per $100 assessed valuation. According to North Carolina law, failure to receive a tax bill does not invalidate the tax or interest charges.
Below is an example of how to calculate a tax amount:
Union County Assessed Value $300,000.00
Tax Rate $.03
$300,000.00 divided by 100 x .03 = $90.00 Per Year
The Town has installed a new payment drop box located beside Town Hall. You will now have the option of making your tax payment after hours at Town Hall.

May 22, 2009 - Census 2010
What is the Census?
- The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years.
- The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
- The next census is in 2010.
- Your participation in the census is required by law.
- It takes less than 10 minutes to complete.
- Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census.
Why is it important?
- Every year, more than $300 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on census data. That’s more than $3 trillion distributed over a 10-year period.
- Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals and schools.
- Census data affect your voice in Congress. The census determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.

May 22, 2009 - LARTP (Local Area Regional Transportation Plan) Project Update
The Western Union County Local Area Regional Transportation Plan (LARTP) is nearing its final stages. The Village of Marvin, Town of Waxhaw, Town of Weddington and Village of Wesley Chapel have been working collectively for over a year to establish a prioritized list of roadway and intersection project improvements. The four towns along with a consultant are currently scheduling a public involvement meeting in late May to present the plan and findings to the public for comments and suggestions. Following the public meeting, the consultant will present the plan to all four Town Councils. More information will be available closer to the meeting date and you may visit the website at www.lartp.org for more information.

May 22, 2009 - Downtown Development Committee Update
The Weddington Downtown Development Committee is in full swing and has had three meetings since this February. The Committee is comprised of six Council appointed citizens and two Town Council and two Planning Board members. The Committee’s first priority is to establish boundaries for the downtown area and the needs and functions for that area. After a few meetings the Committee determined that assistance from a consultant was needed to determine the boundaries, establish a downtown master plan and assist in implementing the plan. A Request for Proposals (RFP) was distributed on May 5, 2009 to several area planning consultants. The consultants have until May 29, 2009 to submit proposals for the downtown master plan. The Town and Downtown Development Committee will review the proposals and associated costs and determine what the next step will be.
